The QR codes are complemented with the provision of the extra cash service

95 percent of the establishments of Commerce and Gastronomy in Las Tunas have QR codes for the online payment of products in the retail network, after a process that began more than two years ago.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The use of the two-dimensional bar code allowed during 2023 income of more than 41 million Cuban pesos (CUP in Spanish) through some 14,000 operations by this means, which nuanced the commercial activities of markets, restaurants, cafeterias, and warehouses in the eight municipalities of Las Tunas.

Roger Luis Nieves Fournier, a specialist in Communication and Marketing of the Business Group of Commerce in the province, said exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that Las Tunas, Manatí, and Majibacoa are accredited as the territories at the forefront, with one hundred percent of their establishments digitized in these practices.

The QR codes are complemented with the provision of the extra cash service in the almost 700 bodegas in the geography of this eastern territory and ideal markets for the extraction of cash in the face of the deficit in the banks and automatic teller machines, Nieves Fournier pointed out.

For this concept, the communicator added, we registered figures of more than 82 million CUP in some 27 thousand transfers in the state sector alone, which was in line with the availability of money in the cash registers of the commercial units.

Although the process of digitalization of commerce began to take shape in Las Tunas in 2021, the economic measures of banking operations in the previous calendar allowed a substantial increase, also due to the entry into force of Resolution 93 of 2023, of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, for the creation of payment facilities through national gateways or point of sale terminals.
