The Las Tunas Electric Company has saved to the State budget just over 10 million convertible pesos so far this year, with the generation of photovoltaic energy coupled to the National Power Grid.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Manuel Antonio Alomá Magariños, director of the Business Unit of Base Electric Power Plants with renewable energy sources in the province, told the Cuban News Agency that its generation is strategic for the country because, in addition to economic savings, it reduces the consumption of fossil fuels and the emission of polluting gases into the environment.
He explained that, in August, the territory saved more than 600 tons of fuel in the production of electricity, while so far this year the reported savings amount to 4,553 tons.
The director affirmed that during the eighth month of the year, the generation behaved at 115 percent and the annual plan is met at 76 percent, which represents an important contribution to obtaining electricity in Las Tunas, located between the provinces that they do not report overdrafts in the service.
He stressed that photovoltaic parks made it possible to reduce the emission of polluting gases to the environment; in the specific case of carbon dioxide, the figure has been reduced to more than 10,000 tons to date.
The province has four solar energy parks located in the northern municipalities of Puerto Padre and Manatí, three of them have a generation capacity of 2.2 megawatts, while one produces 4.4, he specified.
Alomá Magariños assured that the electricity obtained in these enclaves is used in those same territories and that the maximum generation hours are between 11 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, approximately.
The manager emphasized the positive effect that represents that the electricity is generated in the same place where it is consumed, which also contributes to greater energy efficiency.
