La Salida farm

After being put into operation last April, La Salida farm, located on the outskirts of the city of Las Tunas, is already showing good results in its management, as the first crops were harvested and two days later, a new period of short-cycle crops began.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to the head of the unit, Dagoberto Mena Alicio, they collected melon, pumpkin and cowpea beans and expect to collect sweet potato from the 20th of this month, always for the benefit of the inhabitants of the community, through direct sales in the small square of the popular council of the Airport area.

La Salida farmRecently, they planted one hectare of beans, another of sweet potato, and half a cucumber, as part of the continued use of the land that involves planting just one or two days after the fruit is extracted.

Mena Alicio said that the place will not be limited only to agriculture, but that they are promoting other ideas such as the culmination of the livestock module, which includes 20 heads of fattening bulls, about 100 rabbit breeders and between 40 and 50 rams for their attention in platforms.

There are also plans to clean up a pond in the vicinity for the breeding of ducks while forming the henhouses for obtaining animal protein.

In addition, they are building a ranchón for the workers to rest and make their lunch, which can contribute to the stability of the group, which is currently very fluctuating.

So far, the products harvested on the farm have contributed almost 10 thousand pesos and although it is not the solution for supplying the entire city, it does constitute a good contribution; and that is what is needed, to produce food in any space that is possible, even in the family yards and workplaces that allow it.

These are times to think and innovate in terms of sowing, cultivation, and harvesting because the people demand food and only in our own land can we find it.
