Some 289 livestock modules must be developed in the province of Las Tunas as an alternative for obtaining proteins, which is part of the Municipal Self-Supply Program promoted in Cuba.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Until the end of December, 151 of these facilities had been executed, for 52 percent, and the remaining ones will be concluded during the current year in production units of the Sugar Company and the agricultural sector in the eight municipalities.

The strategy to complete these centers foresees that the municipalities of Puerto Padre, Majibacoa and “Amancio” will finish in March, while the others will do so in July, except “Jesús Menéndez,” scheduled for December. However, in all the territories they are now working on the completion of the reproducers of the different species.

There are 1,276 birds in the competed facilitiesWith the purpose of increasing the production of animal protein, several actions have been carried out, such as the selection of the area for the construction of a multiplier center for native pigs, which will allow the sale of breeding swine to productive bases and individual producers.

In addition, progress is being made in the creation of genetic centers for sheep, goats and rabbits in the Minor Cattle Enterprise (EGAME); and through the Urban Agriculture movement, 32 thousand semi-rustic chickens and 60 thousand free-range chickens were sold to the population to promote upbringing in the 83 Popular Councils of the territory.

Finally, a marketing network is organized, since these productions must grow gradually, so 42 points have been defined: 12 for the sale of poultry meat, 20 for pork, and 10 in which sheep-goat meat will be sold. The eight sanitary slabs were also prepared and work is being done on the location and construction of others.
