The number of active mobile lines in Las Tunas exceeds 259 thousand

One cell phone line for every two inhabitants of this eastern Cuban province and other advances in more clients with landline telephony and Internet access from homes attest to how during 2020 the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA) successfully weathered the combined effect of the tightening of the U.S. blockade and the new coronavirus pandemic.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- With the 38 thousand that entered service during the past year, the number of active mobile lines here has already exceeded 259 thousand. While all the municipal capitals already have at least one radio base with 4G technology, something achieved by few provinces of the Cuban Archipelago. These data illustrate the purpose of the entity to continue developing this mode of communication, said the director of the ETECSA Division here, M.Sc. Nelson Reyes González.

For the fourth consecutive year, the staff broke its own records of completed investments, only this time it did so with only 49 percent of the normally available resources for this type of stocks and, at best, 60 percent of the fuel. “All of this forced unprecedented efforts,” the manager stressed.

The set of improvements in the telecommunications infrastructure in the territory make it possible for 80 percent of the local population to have at least one option for Internet access by the beginning of 2021. One out of every three people from Las Tunas has a permanent Nauta account; four out of every 100 homes are connected to the network through the Nauta Hogar service, and the connection to the information highway continued to rise from state work centers and the educational system.

Before these undoubtedly encouraging figures, Omar Ramadán Ferreiro, director of the Territorial Control Office (OTC) suggested that ETECSA's gaze on Las Tunas should focus on the economic impact of each of the investments made. The representative of the Minister of Communications in the territory stressed that the quality of services and continuing to improve the treatment of customers would be other issues not to be neglected by the workers of the telephone company in the immediate future.
