Xiomara Serrano Peña: "I had faith that I would not be left helpless."

More than 200 people were benefited in the municipality of Las Tunas with some type of monetary assistance as a result of the Ordering Task, a figure that confirms that, despite the economic limitations that the country is going through, those who need it most will never be abandoned.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- This is how the Cuban News Agency (ACN) met Xiomara Serrano Peña, a 65-year-old from Las Tunas who went to the Directorate of Labor and Social Security (DTSS) of this municipality in search of aid, once the country's economic ordering strategy has been implemented in Cuba.

"When I learned about the increase in prices and other measures adopted in the territory, the first thing I wanted was to get to work," Xiomara told ACN a few minutes after surprising her at home, on Calle 43 of the populous Buena Vista neighborhood.

"Although, because of my age, it is not possible to employ me, I went to the social worker who attends us through the popular council and I immediately presented my concern," she explained.

Serrano Peña had just lost her son and her other offspring (a daughter and a son), despite worrying about her and having the legal obligation to care for her, do not have enough financial solvency.

Thus Yesenia, the social worker, began her socioeconomic evaluation to process Xiomara’s file, an analysis that today translates into a compensated temporary monetary benefit, which includes the contribution of her children and a monthly pension of 1,040 pesos.

"When I least expected it, I got the news that my pension had been approved," she - excited -expresses today, which is why she confirmed that all these measures that are being carried out in the country are for the betterment of the people; "I have faith in the Revolution and I always knew that I would not be left helpless."

Xiomara likes to be always active, back and forth busy, walking or doing something, but with the complex health situation imposed by the COVID-19, she stays at home, calm, watching television, and even spoiling the puppy Cayo, his sister's pet, a bit.
