During these days, before the May Day celebration, and in response to the call from the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC), from its unions, workers from different sectors of production and services have made around 200 voluntary blood donations.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dagmara Peña Sánchez, a member of the Provincial Secretariat of the labor organization, expresses satisfaction with how the affiliates have responded to the call, and for the support of the provincial and municipal Health directorates, which have made this altruistic gesture possible.

She highlights that 11 mobile banks were held -of the 12 planned in the program in greeting International Workers' Day-, which arrived at the designated work centers and established the hygienic-sanitary and safety conditions for this type of activity.

She also praises the willingness of those who have come to hand over this vital component of their body, aware that they help save lives and contribute to the in-hospital care of patients in need.

Peña Sánchez highlights that massiveness has been the predominant characteristic in the response given to the call, and recognizes the municipalities of Las Tunas, Manatí, and Puerto Padre as the most outstanding; while the unions that mark the vanguard are the Civil Defense, Education, and Communication, Informatics and Electronics.

She assures that this is a tradition of the labor movement but before the celebration of the international ephemeride, blood donations receive a special boost that the Health sector appreciates.

This is confirmed by Nursing graduate Elvira Vázquez Escobar, a worker at the Provincial Blood Bank: “It is a humanitarian gesture of great support because sometimes we have a deficit in blood reserves, which further enhances the contributions of the workers.”

Men and women who took a break from their work routines to go to the authorized points also expressed their sentiments that are summarized in the will to continue defending these conquests of the Revolution.
