The factory has a plan of 415 cubic meters of 3 to 6 millimeter boards.

Although its last physical production was in June last year and the electricity shortages still keep it away from its major commercial purposes, the Máximo Gómez Báez Bagasse Board Factory, belonging to the Antonio Guiteras Sugarcane Derivatives base business unit (UEB, in Spanish), has found new horizons to guarantee income to those who do not know how to sit with their arms crossed.

Daniel Brito Cabrera, group leader of the factory, told 26 that the lack of lubricating oil is also added to the list that keeps them interrupted, essential to deal with obsolete technology and years of overexploitation.

Despite this environment, the manager assures that with the raw materials still available they have ventured into the production of doors, beds, closets, baskets, and other items that the population has welcomed.

“We have agreed with Education to deliver windows, baskets, and blackboards and we plan to increase production. We work for the prioritized organizations but with the furniture, we also support the community and our workers.

Brito Cabrera emphasized that the priority is to honor the commitments with the Community Services Company in the making of sarcophagi, a task in which they stand out at the country level.

“For the current year, we have a plan for 415 cubic meters of 3 to 6 millimeter boards and we have the guarantee of the raw materials from the Majibacoa and Guiteras sugar mills. Our group, innovative par excellence, keeps the production lines vital, and is waiting to resume the production rhythm that characterizes us,” pointed out the official.

The lack of profits and resources prompted the unit to pour its energies into a livestock module that could somehow overcome the current situation. The results already show that there is the determination to move forward.

Likewise, to contribute to the worker's income, the board of directors launched a cafeteria and a sale point of guarapo (sugarcane juice), which ensured customers in its surroundings and banished leisure from the factory.
