The University of Medical Sciences' theater hosted the celebrations for International Nursing Day and became a space to highlight the impact of these Las Tunas professionals, who, from different healthcare centers, assume the mission of healing every day.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the event, gratitude was expressed towards the professors who have contributed to the training of new generations, and honorees were Geisy Pérez, Liuba Escobedo, Elvis Hércules, and Lenia Álvarez, all of whom have played key roles in the academic environment and are recognized as examples of compassion and dedication.
Amid a complex situation marked by a scarcity of resources and medical supplies, it was commendable to recognize the 16 teams with the greatest impact on service delivery. In addition to highlighting the performance of all the municipalities, recognition was also given to the largest hospital institutions in the province. It was no coincidence that applause rose to honor those whose legacy serves as an example for the sector. Gratitude was extended to MScs Jesús Chacón (Chucho) for 39 years of dedicated service, including three international missions, the Annual Health Award, and his role as a mentor to numerous graduating classes.
Similarly, the warm embrace was extended to Ms. Yoandra Gutiérrez, Head of the Provincial Neonatology Group, assistant professor, and one of the most beloved professionals in the field, known for her consistent work within the service and her profound compassion. MScs. Bartolo Cruz Céspedes, Provincial Nursing Advisor, Elizabeth Guzmán, with her extensive experience as a leader, and Yarima Villanueva, from the Family Doctor's Office program, also received the audience's enthusiastic applause and the respect of the entire sector.
In a particularly significant moment, the Golden Cap was awarded to 14 professionals with long careers and a strong commitment to various healthcare settings. These nurses, some with three or four decades of service, have dedicated themselves to caring for their patients and fostering an internationalist spirit that is promoted by Cuban Public Health.
Dr. Ariel Guevara Bringa, Provincial Director of Health, acknowledged the positive impact of nursing in Las Tunas and the value of its professionals who always step forward in the noblest causes.
This event marked the beginning of "May for Nursing" in the province, an initiative that promotes recognition of the sector through professional development activities and academic events in different venues. Further days of appreciation are planned for those who embody, as their essence, absolute dedication and love for humanity.
