Summer arrived in Las Tunas with high temperatures that affect daily life when thermometers show values close to 36 degrees Celsius; brands that, even below the historical average at this stage, represent an intense perception of heat for the locals.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Records of 36.6, registered on June 23 and July 29, both in 1999, are the highest values of the last decades; however, during the current calendar, the province was close to the hot days of the last century between July 5 and 10 with 35.1 degrees.
Alexey Moreno Borges, technical director of the Provincial Meteorological Center (CMP), expressed exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that in these months the thermal sensation is greater, due to various factors, among which are the speed of the winds, the intensity of the sun, and even the infrastructure of the locations where the individual is.
Above the real value, the effect can point to two and a half or more degrees, so we can feel an impetuous climate that causes sunstroke and other negative tendencies to health, so it is recommended that between 11:00 a.m. and at 4:00 pm, we do not directly receive solar radiation, the manager clarified.
Between Wednesday and Thursday, the sensation has risen due to the presence of Saharan dust in the Caribbean region, with a mass of greater concentration that represents risks for vulnerable people, especially those with respiratory conditions; as well as children and the elderly, said José Norlan Peña Ojeda, main specialist of the CMP.
The experts clarify the impossibility of the occurrence of heat waves in Las Tunas due to the geographical characteristics of the Island, with a long and narrow shape surrounded by the sea, where only the so-called heat strokes can take place due to the elevations in body temperature up to 40 degrees.
The World Meteorological Organization marked the beginning of the El Niño climatic event in the Pacific Ocean on the 4th of the current month and with it the beginning of an active period that could cause a considerable increase in global warming, a prognosis that is alarming if one takes into account that the planet is experiencing the warmest days in the last 100 years.
