Analysis of Las Tunas' economic performance

For the year 2023, the political and governmental authorities of the province designed several projections to boost territorial development and strengthen the economy, while guaranteeing basic services to the population.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In a meeting with representatives of agencies, companies, and organizations, it was reported that four economic indicators were selected which are summarized in the projected growth in net sales, reduction of the budget deficit, and increase in territorial retail mercantile circulation.

An increase in pre-tax profits is also foreseen, except for the Poultry Company, the only one projecting losses since its plan. However, the entity must promote secondary productions that will allow it to minimize the planned.

To have a superior year in terms of results, collective participation is required, in which the municipal governments will have the leading role, with concrete tasks in the decisive sectors of production and services, through efficiency and the deployment of creative initiatives.

In the effort to carry out these actions, the province has potential, especially the development of scientific and academic personnel, with proposals for innovation and capabilities to face current and future production processes.

The existence of natural resources for the production of construction materials, the promotion of renewable energy, the development of tourism, and the availability of a large amount of idle land that can be used for agriculture and livestock farming stand out.

Among the challenges for the current calendar is the government-university-business link, the increase in the informatization of society and communications, as well as the creation of new actors in the economy and their linkage with the state sector in the search for solutions to current problems.

In addition, the agricultural capacity for the development of rustic crops, grains, and fruit trees, the promotion of urban, suburban, and family agriculture, and the strategy and infrastructure for the development of cattle, small livestock, and livestock modules.

Finally, the territory must strengthen management in the country's prioritized plans, such as food sovereignty and nutritional education, climate change, and housing construction, with an increase in projects based on science and innovation.

At the meeting, Manuel Pérez Gallego, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in Las Tunas, urged those present to develop proposals and actions that result in strengthening the economy and the welfare of the population, with the rational use of electricity, fuel, and other resources.
