Contingent from the Las Tunas Electric Company departed for Santiago de Cuba.

With the conviction that solidarity is stronger than any cyclone, a contingent from the Las Tunas Electric Company departed for Santiago de Cuba with the mission of joining the complex but not impossible task of restoring electrical service, severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa.

Las Tunas, Cuba.– Composed of linemen, technical and logistical personnel, and a support group, this team carries not only tools and cables, but also the commitment, solidarity, and spirit of service that characterize the electricians of Las Tunas.

For Alexei Arias Cruz, the motivation transcends the technical aspects. “Let us be driven by commitment and hope. Our work is not limited to simply erecting poles and restoring power lines; it is also our responsibility to deliver a message of support and strength to those affected.

“The road ahead will not be easy, but we will rebuild what this hurricane destroyed. We are guided by solidarity, by the energy that springs from the heart when we see our brothers and sisters going through difficult times. Hurricane Melissa raised willing hands and the certainty that the light will shine again.”

Carlos Rafael Arias Sobrino, the organization's director general and mission leader, explained the strategy deployed. “On Sunday, the first brigade left to assess the work that needed to be done, and another one departed on Monday and is already working.

“Our contingent will head to the municipality of San Luis, although the location may change given the complexity of the situation and the low percentage of recovery. We have a lot of work to do,” he emphasized.

Arias Sobrino is aware of the challenge they will face. “The geography is complex; we are going to solve a problem that plagues the population. The conditions are clearly difficult; we are going to devastated communities.”

Given this situation, the director, along with the authorities of the Provincial Defense Council, made a firm call to prioritize safety. “We are going to carry out a task of great magnitude; therefore, we must comply with the safety and protection measures. Human lives cannot be neglected.”

At the flag-raising ceremony, Yelenys Tornet Meneses, vice president of the Provincial Defense Council, bid farewell to the workers with the certainty that they will fulfill the mission, which is nothing less than a reflection of the deepest values of our people.

“The capacity for support of the people of Las Tunas has already been demonstrated. Upon your return, we will be welcoming you with the satisfaction of a duty fulfilled. We ask you to take care of yourselves and return home safe and sound.”
