Former President and candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday continues his electoral campaign in northeastern Brazil toward the runoff vote on October 30.

Brasilia.- The official website of the Workers’ Party (PT), of which Lula is its presidential candidate, indicates that the former labor leader continues his walks and public events in capital cities such as Aracaju in Sergipe state, Maceió in Alagoas and Recife in Pernambuco. According to the website, the first march is in Aracaju in the morning, in the presence of Lula and PT Senator Rogério Carvalho, candidate for the government of Sergipe.

The former metallurgical leader will be in Maceió this Thursday afternoon and Recife on Friday to lead the march along with federal deputy Marília Arraes, a member of the Solidarity party and a candidate for governor of Pernambuco.

On Wednesday, Lula acknowledged in Salvador, the capital of northeastern Bahia state, that he will seek the vote of those undecided people to win the runoff vote versus far-right President Jair Bolsonaro.

The Electoral Justice confirmed that the former president got 48.43 percent of the votes in the first round held on October 2, versus 43.20 percent for Bolsonaro, who seeks reelection for the Liberal Party.

None of the candidates for Brazil’s presidency achieved an absolute majority of votes in this first round, that is, more than half of the valid votes (excluding blank and null votes) as the Brazilian legislation to be elected establishes. (PL)
