With the obligatory reference to José Martí, 168 years after his birth, that “the homeland is an altar and not pedestal," the prizes of the Ubiquel Arévalo Morales Provincial Journalism Contest were awarded in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In a simple ceremony adjusted to health protocols, the best of what was published in the press during 2020 was recognized, with the attendance of a small representation of the membership from the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) and officials from the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), the Cuban Workers’ Confederation (CTC), the National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and other guests.

Therefore, after evaluating around a hundred works, the samples related to the press coverage of the COVID-19 were the most awarded by the jury, in a special call for the largest competitive contest of the Las Tunas guild.

The journalists Misleydis González Ávila and Yuset Puig Pupo, from 26; Natasha Díaz Bardón and Gianny López Brito, from Tunasvisión; and Darletis Leyva González and Yenima Díaz Velázquez, from Radio Victoria, won first and second places in that order in the respective categories of Written , Television and Radio Press.

Meanwhile, István Ojeda Bello, 26, and Yaidel Rodríguez Castro, from Radio Cabaniguán, obtained the first and second places in Hypermedia Journalism. Reynaldo López Peña and Antonio Medina Segura, achieved the highest award in Graph, both also from 26.

Mentions were also given to Juan Morales Agüero, Written Press; Karina Zayas Rodríguez, Television; and Iris Hernández Rodríguez, in Hypermedia Journalism.
