Rafael, farmer and engineer

Cuba recognizes itself in the faces of its children. They, we, are the descendants of a brave, resilient lineage; we are summary and beginning.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Youth is the fundamental clay of this work, full of challenges and luminous victories like this one against the COVID-19. Because our young people have been in the front line of fighting, the same in health care, as in isolation centers, food production, social work, the media, stores...

RAFAEL, IN LOVE WITH THE EARTH

If someone still has doubts about the loquacity of the rural man or woman, would clears them when listens to Rafael García Ramayo, a worker at the Calixto Sarduy agricultural production cooperative (CPA) and an agricultural engineer, for more details.

‟Since I was born all I have seen is the field. There are my roots, my grandparents and my parents instilled it in me. I feel love for this and I really like it,” stresses this young man who has a commitment to the inhabitants of Becerra, and to the population of Las Tunas in general. So he works hard in his fields and does his part of the duty, others have to do theirs; only in this way, a country is built.

Rafael says that there are many like him and it is said by whom, with all his youth, has been a teacher; because from the vocation for the field, the art of transmitting what he has learned has been born.

‟The days are different, but youth is the same, active and dynamic; more and more curious. The young people in the groove do not obviate development and improve technology and scientific knowledge. The peasant of today is no longer the one who remained silent to see if he was given the plot or not, now he inquires, asks for support, informs himself and is eager to seek knowledge. Many take a saber out of any engineer, as one says," this young lover of nature and aware of the importance of his work says.

“The work in the field is hard. Tasks are carried out that sometimes one says: 'how difficult!,' But it can be done,” highlights García Ramayo and adds:“ It's worth it.” Thus, with resolution, he reaffirms the eternal love affair with the land, mother of all riches.

MAGDIEL, FROM THE CLASSROOM TO AN ISOLATION CENTER

Magdiel, teacher

Perhaps it was the vocation to set an example, the conscience of the teacher he is and of his role in society, the conviction of the historical moment, or the need to do something useful and profitable ... one or the other, or perhaps all the reasons together could encourage that “yes” from Magdiel Ricardo Gómez, a teacher at the Rita Longa school in Las Tunas.

Sooner or later, the calculation of the implications came, the dialogue with the family, the disposition of the mind and heart for the unknown; imposing, in the face of natural fear, will and perseverance. Now, after many days of delivery, there is space to know that "it was an unforgettable experience," one of those that nurture for a lifetime.

While his daily school assumed the functions of an isolation center, Magdiel followed in his footsteps and changed the blackboard and eraser for as long as it took: quilt, mop, scrubbing, moving the food ..., because his primary objective there was "to contribute to the work of the doctors.” They cared and saved, he also did, in the beautiful way of those who give themselves for the common good.

"I took my step forward as every revolutionary young these days," summarizes this professor of Psychology, one of the many who in the 13 isolation centers of Las Tunas left their mark on their support for a very well-articulated system. It is that youth is always where it is most needed and takes on the challenges knowing that they are the continuity of a work worthy of efforts, above all, that effort with a young sign.

YOUTH, FOR CUBA AND AGAINST COVID-19

An admirable response and feeling has stood out these days among young people, dedicated to caring, saving, contributing ... and so many actions that realize the value of new generations. They, the children of Mother Cuba, have been discovering the intrigue of the “coronabug,” sanitizing the world of its invisible trail, spending hours in the study of a deadly and unknown disease, tracking down the trail of "the brave" or fertilizing the groove to satisfy the table ... so much to do in these times has the stamp of new pines !; work against COVID-19, for Cuba, for humanity.
