COVID-19 in Las Tunas

With the epidemiological discharge to the 87-year-old patient Delia Pérez Concepción, a resident in the municipality of Manatí, the total recovery of 16 of those diagnosed in this province is confirmed.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dr. Jesús León Silva, head of the command post of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health, said that after the clinical discharge, these people completed 14 days of isolation at their homes, with restrictions on movement and visits, in accordance with medical protocols. All of them underwent an evolutionary real-time PCR, which tested negative.

Despite the stable epidemiological situation, Health personnel do not neglect active surveillance in the communities and maintain the application of rapid diagnostic tests and PCR. This was confirmed to the local radio station by Gregory Pérez Héctor, deputy director of Medical Assistance, who added that the exams will be extended to municipalities that have not reported positive cases.

He said that from next week the second phase of the seroprevalence study will continue, which studies 45 families: 15 in the municipality of Manatí and 30 in the provincial capital. Precisely, the only patient from the northern municipality aforementioned so far was detected during the initial stage of that research.

The province is getting ready for the post-COVID-19 recovery process. In this regard, Pérez commented that in the first phase, 50 percent of the interrupted healthcare activities and services such as elective surgery will be resumed. The dentistry attention will also be completely restored - he added-; while continuing to adopt hygienic-sanitary measures and maintaining the use of the protective facial mask and social distancing.

Due to the pandemic, one deceased is reported of the 18 positive cases in the territory, and one is imported, this is related to the ship that arrived from Mexico to the province of Matanzas. The patient from Las Tunas like the rest of the cases linked to the boat remains hospitalized in that city.

Today the isolation centers have no COVID-19 suspects or contacts. According to the last part, 3,620 quick tests and 4,117 PCRs have been performed here. Yesterday, 153,326 people were inquired by Primary Health Care and 35 reported their health condition through Virtual Inquirer app.
