21,582 people have been assigned in remote work in Las Tunas.

While the increase in positive cases for the new coronavirus robs headlines worldwide, the bachelor Yusmary Rivero Leyva stays longer at her home in the Aguilera neighborhood, in the city of Las Tunas, thanks to the distance working that is promoted today in Cuba as part of the measures implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- “At this moment I am working here, in the digital update of the cadres files. They provided me with all the conditions, such as the computer I used in my center that, with the established norms, was transferred to my home,” said Yusmary, who works as a specialist in the Provincial Directorate of Labor.

As part of the decisions adopted by the Government, together with the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) to achieve population isolation, 21,582 people have been assigned in remote work, 776 in the teleworking modality, who are guaranteed one hundred percent of their salary.

“Article 24 of Law 116, the Labor Code, of December 20, 2013, establishes the content of labor contracts, with the agreement of the place to perform it, which is almost always the domicile. In the case of teleworking, it is required to have the necessary means to facilitate it and, in addition, it is essential to connect to the Internet,” explained the M.Sc. Oleydis Saucedo Licea, provincial director of Labor and Social Security.

Thanks to the alternative, Yusmary distributes her professional obligations and has time to dedicate herself to a noble endeavor. Every day, at midday and afternoon, he arrives at the Family Care System (SAF) of her community, located in the El Oriente market, to bring lunch and dinner to three elderly people who live alone.

Likewise, with the participation of my husband, I take care of my daughters; with the youngest, only 3 years old, I enjoy television programs designed for her age; and the oldest, 15, I help her understand the directions of the teleclasses," added Yusmary.

Until April 17 and in order to avoid contagions, the Directorate of Labor and Social Security in Las Tunas also facilitated the payment at the home of Social Assistance, belonging to 4,906 family nuclei, through postmen and postal agents of the Cuban Post Office Company, together with social workers in charge of guaranteeing the collection authorization.
