The third positive case for Covid-19

The third positive case for COVID-19 in this eastern province keeps the inhabitants attentive, especially those who reside in the municipality of Puerto Padre, where he kept a stay for a few days with his relatives.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Diego Julián Dopazo, director of the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (CPHEM), explained to 26 Digital that this is Omar Parra Vidal, 38, a resident of Chile. "The citizen entered our country on March 19 through the José Martí International Airport, in Havana City, and on the afternoon of the 20th, he moved to our province, specifically to the so-called Villa Azul."

He reports that 21 was detected by the basic Health team of his medical office, through active inquire and they report his presence in the community to the health authorities. At that time the indication was to maintain surveillance inside the home with visits twice a day.

“Until March 27 he remained asymptomatic; in the afternoon, he manifested general malaise and upon physical examination hyperthermia, that is, a fever of 38.5 degrees Celsius, is confirmed. Given these symptoms and due to the risk of having come from abroad, it was immediately decided to activate the system and send him to El Cocal, in Holguín, in accordance with what is established.”

Dopazo assures that from day 27 he entered the center and remained symptomatic, but in a favorable state of health and under strict control. In subsequent days, according to the protocols to guarantee the reliability of the exam, the confirmatory test is performed, which is positive for the disease.

COVID-19 in Las Tunas

Around 40 contacts were identified and in a short time, they were isolated in the centers set up in the territory for that purpose. They are all in good health and without warning signs, but they must remain there.

"We have a communication system with Holguín that works several times a day and they inform us that the patient is evolving satisfactorily and without danger to his life up to now."

The director of the CPHEM considers that violations of the isolation measures, indicated by the country's leadership, can be inferred from the case in question; taking into account the high number of contacts. Likewise, it refers that active surveillance goes beyond the basic Health team to intervene in a timely manner and preserve the life of these patients.
