The assistance to the elderly is a priority in Cuba

The provincial director of Labor and Social Security in Las Tunas, Oleidis Saucedo Licea, confirmed to the press the sustained work to protect the lives of more than 600 people who are served by Social Assistance in this territory.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- “We have created a large group in the midst of the worldwide pandemic due to Covid-19. We added the municipal directorates of Labor, in addition to those who work at the National Institute of Social Security (Inass) and the National Office of Labor Inspection (ONIT).

“We will to take to the homes of around 380 elderly people who live alone lunch and dinner during these days, so that they do not have to travel to the facilities that are usually used as part of the Family Care System (SAF).

“We also rely on the 354 social workers we have and those who remain in the communities by supporting the work and ensuring the health of all.

"We are also involved in a system with the workers of the Cuban Post Office Company to bring senior citizens who live alone the payment to their homes. We have all witnessed queues at warehouses, offices and banks on the days of payment. We cannot allow that on the current situation.”

The official made a special appeal to the family. She insisted on supporting the elder people so that they do not leave their homes and respect the rules of social isolation that are now indispensable.

She also emphasized that the elderlyliving alone should not despair. "No one is going to be abandoned. We are here to support them and we are going to do it. Be confident, be calm. The intention of our work is to protect the health and life of each one,” she concluded.
