New SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus

Reinforcing house-to-house work with the support of mass organizations and comply with the strategies designed to deal with the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was the call of Manuel Pérez Gallego, president of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP) in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the systematic evaluation of the local action plan, it was reported that the new isolation centers are ready for the entry of the more than 1,400 inhabitants who could arrive from other nations; as well as the availability of the health personnel who would assist them. Among the proposals are the Lenin campus of the University, the former Polytechnic of Health and the Ferroviario Hotel.

Currently, more than 38,400 workers in the budgeted sector remain interrupted, some 12,700 are in the distance employment modality and 1,522 mothers are protected with their entire salary during the first month, and later, with 60 percent until the restart of classes.

In line with the country's decisions, public activities are suspended, mainly from organizations such as Culture, Sports and Housing. To date, 529 requests have been made for the temporary suspension of self-employed workers, mainly tenants, gym and restaurant owners, and contracted work.

Once again, the need to release the greatest number of people residing in different municipalities who work in the provincial capital, seeking alternatives within the modalities of employment, was stressed. As the level of activity decreases, so will transport services.

On the other hand, they are looking for alternatives to guarantee the safety of the wandering people. Likewise, the relatives of the “walkers” were alerted to the urgency of keeping them in a good shelter at home.

Another vital issue reviewed by the CDP is the distribution of chlorine at different points. The highest authorities emphasize the need for timely information to the population about the exact location of these retail locations.

Food distribution is also a point of mandatory verification in each of these meetings. Although the distribution of agricultural products is maintained, the demand of the head municipality is still not satisfied, which is why greater rigor with the production units is requested.

While weekend fairs are suspended, the indication is to distribute all the assortments through the different markets to bring them closer to the population and avoid large crowds. With regard to pork meat, the purpose is not achieved either; however, there is a greater supply of croquette, viscera, blood sausage and hash, among other options.

The president of the Defense Council acknowledged that greater organization in the queues and more people wearing masks to protect themselves from COVID-19 are perceptible, but to continue raising risk perception among the population and only leave home for very justified reasons is still imperative.
