Covid-19 rebound

With the four new cases reported today in Las Tunas, more than 220 have already accumulated here since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic; of them, 43 autochthonous in the last 15 days for an incidence rate of 8.04 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- “We are not within the most complex provinces in the country, but we are with an increasing trend. For this reason, the Temporary Working Group approved measures in this stage of new normality with the aim of controlling the disease and avoiding a regression to previous phases,”explained Dr. Gregory Pérez Héctor, deputy director of Health in the territory.

The increase in autochthonous, he said, shows that contacts of positive cases have fallen ill and family transmission has been generated. Today, the province has 43 open outbreaks, eight of them in the municipality of Puerto Padre and 25 in Las Tunas.

In the health area of the Gustavo Aldereguía Lima polyclinic, in the provincial capital, a ring was closed that involves three blocks, belonging to the Doctor Office 6, close to the Electric Company; 399 people remain under surveillance there.

Likewise, it occurred in the area of the Aquiles Espinosa polyclinic, by the workshop of the Logistics Business Group of the Ministry of Agriculture (GELMA), where 131 people are being controlled. Another focus of similar magnitude is in the Santo Domingo neighborhood, in the "Manuel (Piti) Fajardo" area.

Pérez Héctor also mentioned among the most complicated two outbreaks located in the “Romárico Oro” area, in Puerto Padre, which have had autochthonous transmission; one in La Morena and another in Boquerón. Those places were closed with the support of the Ministry of the Interior and other agencies to provide them with the necessary resources.

“These are the areas that register the highest number of autochthonous cases in the province. Those who reside there remain in quarantine with monitoring by Health, and in those places where medical offices are not located, tents are set up for the permanence of our staff,” the doctor says.

Today there are three isolation centers in Las Tunas: the Los Cocos motel and the Family Club dedicated to the care of suspects and the Ferroviario hotel for travelers and contacts that do not have the conditions to isolate themselves at home.

At the same time, at the José Martí School, asymptomatic patients confirmed with the COVID-19 are assisted. Until yesterday, 39 positive admitted were reported; 29 in this center and 10 in the Fermín Valdés hospital, in the province of Holguín.

The deputy director of Health reaffirmed the need to comply with the recently approved measures, and insisted on the mandatory and correct use of the facemask, as well as on the physical distancing and sanitation of hands and surfaces.
