Anti-Covid-19 pediatric vaccination campaign

This Saturday, another step forward to be more protected against the SARS-CoV-2 marked the history of immunization in Las Tunas. And it is done with a very sensitive population group: our children.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- After several months at home, today they see each other again. The moment of the reunion: children between 2 and 10 years old go to get vaccinated. Thus, a new health cycle begins, accompanied by the family, so that 54,739 infants from Las Tunas -according to official data from the Provincial Directorate of Public Health- will receive their three doses.

Anti-Covid-19 pediatric vaccination campaignIt includes two injections of Soberana 02 and one of Soberana Plus, with 28 days of mediation between each one. "It is important that the family accompany this health campaign, which is carried out like the previous one –children and young ages between 11 and 18 years-, in three days," says Dr. Norkis Sánchez Alonso, head of the Provincial Public Health Primary Care Section.

"We insist on hygiene standards for children. Being vaccinated does not fully guarantee protection if we do not take care of them; we must maintain physical distance, wear the facemask, and wash hands constantly... These are basic measures that we insist on parents so that they can rejoin social life as soon as possible, following these efforts by the Cuban Ministry of Public Health to immunize as many people as possible."

More than 190 vaccination centers take on the mission; several in schools and childcare centers. Besides, the Family Doctor and Nurse offices have been certified for these purposes and a special clinical site is designated in each Health area to receive children with associated comorbidities. A pediatrician supervises the correct vaccination process for those considered as higher-risk cases.
