Anti-Covid-19 pediatric vaccination campaign

About five thousand students from Las Tunas receive the third and last dose of the Cuban Abdala anti-COVID-19 vaccine since October 1, which opens the last stage of the vaccination process to the pediatric population in the province.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The product, developed by the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), with proven 92.28 percent efficiency in the prevention of symptomatic disease, is applied to students in the terminal years of the Pre-university, Pedagogical, and Technical Professional teachings.

More than fifty clinical sites host this health action around the province, about twenty in the capital municipality; and most of the facilities correspond, as in previous opportunities, to educational centers.

Throughout the country, the immunization of this age group occurs in a campaign format, with many beneficiaries in a short time and the active participation of health and education personnel and community organizations, which accelerate the protection of all Cubans in the middle of a difficult epidemiological context.

Thus, the application of the second dose of Sovereign 02 for school children between 11 and 18 years of age is expected to occur in the first days of the second fortnight of the current month and, a few days later, the schedule establishes that of infants from 2 to 10 years.

More than 92 thousand minors make up both groups of infants and adolescents, who are favored with this formulation, to which is added a third dose of Soberana Plus; both, Cuban biotechnological preparations created by the Finlay Institute of Vaccines (IFV).

The vaccination of some 100,000 schoolchildren is an essential step for their return to the classrooms, which the country has gradually and safely organized. However, directors of the educational sector in the territory reported that, in the case of students of the terminal years, the return to face-to-face activities will not be, as planned, next Monday, October 4.

Both, in the province and at the national level, the authorities have insisted that even if students and educators have been vaccinated, it will be essential to maintain the biosecurity measures to protect against SARS-CoV-2.
