Havana, Cuba.- According to an EMNDC's press release, the call was taken for territories ranging from Pinar del Río to Cienfuegos including the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth), due to Ian's potential danger.

Likewise, the EMNDC informs the rest of the central provinces to remain alert to the storm Ian's progress and, in particular, recommends population to be aware of the information provided by the Institute of Meteorology.

Ian is the ninth tropical storm of the present hurricane season and the sixth one formed in September, preceded by Danielle, Earl, and Fiona, which became hurricanes.

Formed only a few hours ago, according to forecasts, it has the potential to reach hurricane status late Sunday or at night. (PL)
