The Center for Energy and Industrial Processes Studies (Ceepi) of the José Martí University is today one of the leaders in this field in Cuba.

Sancti Spíritus.- Ernesto Luis Barrera, Director of the Center, said this program seeks to transform, in the shortest possible time, the national energy matrix, in a press conference.

He also said the research strategy is aimed at sustainable agro-industrial and energy progress. The advances achieved in biogas in the territory are distinguished as one of the leading centers in this field.

The results achieved with the biogas program, considered a national reference, will be applied in other territories as indicated by the Ministry of Economy.

Prensa Latina learned that the potential of territorial renewable energy lies in the sugar and dairy industries and in the cultivation of rice, where foreign investment would be needed to use them.

Given the tense energy situation, the natural sources, inexhaustible or with a capacity for renewal, become an urgent way to follow, the specialist said. (PL)
