MEP Manu Pineda stated that the blockade is a criminal policy that violates human rights and causes suffering

Spanish MEP Manu Pineda on Thursday demanded to end the US blockade against Cuba and immediately remove that country from Washington's unilateral list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

Brussels.- In statements to Prensa Latina, Pineda stressed his condemnation of the economic, commercial, and financial siege imposed for more than 60 years and denounced its extraterritorial nature.

The blockade not only prevents Cuba from developing but also does not allow European entrepreneurs to invest or do business there, the MEP said.

The member of the Left-wing, in the European Parliament, stated that it is a criminal policy that violates human rights and causes suffering to an entire country; 80 percent of the Cuban population was born under the blockade.

Some say the blockade is an excuse of the Cuban Government, then that excuse would be straightforwardly removed and let that country do its work under normal conditions, he stated.

Regarding the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, Pineda repudiated Cuba’s inclusion on it by the administration of Donald Trump (2017-2021), which his successor, Joseph Biden, still maintains despite lacking arguments for that purpose.

The MEP acknowledged that in such complex circumstances, Cuba remains with its solidarity campaigns worldwide; it could produce vaccines and other medicines to protect its people against the COVID-19 pandemic. (PL)
