The ashes of Army Corps General Julio Casas Regueiro and Major General Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja were deposited in the Mausoleum of the Second Eastern Front

Yesterday, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro presided over, together with President Miguel Díaz-Canel,  the burial ceremony of the remains of the nation's renowned military officers.

Santiago de Cuba.- The ashes of Army Corps General Julio Casas Regueiro and Major General Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja were deposited in the Mausoleum of the Frank País Second Eastern Front, the national television reported.

Both high-ranking officers, from different generations, were united in their efforts to convert in reality, projects for the development of the Revolution.

In front of the monolith that holds the remains, relatives, friends, and comrades in arms accompanied by the honors paid to those who in life had a close friendship, said the TV report. In the mourning farewell, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero highlighted the close relationship that existed between the veteran guerrilla rebel, who became minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and the young and intelligent officer, to whom he entrusted complex missions and tasks.

He highlighted the work of both during the so-called special period, under the direct guidance of Raúl Castro, in the FAR business system, where they played a decisive role in the economy and defense of the country.

The solemn ceremony was also attended by the Secretary of the Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales; the Minister of the FAR, Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera; and the head of the Interior, Major General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, among other members of the Political Bureau of the PCC.
