During 2020 this eastern province grew by more than 38 thousand mobile lines

The Las Tunas Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company SA (ETECSA) begins 2021 with one active cell phone line for every two inhabitants, "4G" in all municipal capitals, and growth in citizens' access to the Internet through various channels.

Las Tunas, Cuba.– During 2020 this eastern province grew by more than 38 thousand mobile lines, which means that approximately one out of every two persons has an active line; meanwhile, with the renovation of the existing one in the city of Jobabo last December, at least one cell phone radio base in all Las Tunas municipalities is supported in the fourth generation of this technology.

"Despite the difficulties brought by the Covid-19 pandemic and the resurgence of the US blockade, we end the year with all our economic plans fulfilled, including the planned investments," the Master of Science Nelson Reyes, head of ETECSA here, said.

The improvements in cellular telephony, he said, were also expressed through actions on its infrastructure through the entry into service of 14 new radio bases that increased coverage especially in rural areas such as Salgacero in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez; San Manuel and Maniabón, municipality of Puerto Padre; in Omaja, municipality of Majibacoa; and Dumañuecos, municipality of Manatí. Something similar was achieved, he added, with the placement of a micro BTS in the town of Baltre, within the main municipality.

At the beginning of 2021, some 100 base stations are already operational here; of which 27 provide access to the “4G”, a technology existing in all municipalities. The manager meant that the investment completed in Salagacero was not only good news for the holders of cell lines there; It was equally enjoyable for users of alternative landlines who were able to switch to basic telephony.

In this last type of service, Reyes said, there was also growth since more than four thousand new lines came into operation in neighborhoods of the city of Las Tunas, and in the towns of Delicias and Colombia. This, he stressed, led to the density of fixed telephony in Las Tunas at 10 lines per 100 inhabitants.

EXPANDED INTERNET SERVICES

The will of the Cuban State to continue expanding the access of Cubans to the Internet was also palpable in Las Tunas during 2020. In this regard, the Director of the ETECSA Division exemplified that new Wi-Fi zones were installed in the period, especially in rural areas such as the aforementioned Salgacero; at the Kilómetro 14, municipality of Amancio; and Naranjo, "Puerto Padre"; in addition to another in the vicinity of the Multipurpose Center, in the city of Las Tunas.

At the same time, Nelson Reyes said, more than 1,800 new Nauta Hogar services were installed, totaling 8,929 since the beginning of mimes; so that an average of 4.2 households out of every 100 enjoy this cable access to the Internet in the province.

At the same time, all universities and hospitals are connected to optic fiber while more than 260 schools also already have access to the network of networks. This technological goodness came through new data services in 90 state entities while another 300 grew in bandwidth, he concluded.
