The Cuban transport minister, Eduardo Rodriguez, said today that the relevant authorities are investigating the causes of the derailment of a passenger train with almost 900 people, no fatalities, and two injured.

Havana, Cuba.- According to the holder of the portfolio, the causes of the accident, which occurred this Wednesday at km 92,500 of the Central Line, near the western province of Matanzas, “will be investigated in depth to avoid its repetition”.

The injured passengers, after the accident of the Extra 14 train Guantánamo-Havana (east-west), continue to recover in the provincial hospital Faustino Pérez, updated the minister.

Rodríguez pointed out on the social network Facebook that the affected area of the railway occupies about 320 meters of the route and its rehabilitation requires complex work by specialists and workers of the Cuban railroad.

The political and governmental authorities, along with those of the sector in Matanzas, guaranteed the transfer of stranded passengers by bus to the country's capital; meanwhile, they used alternative routes to restore the circulation of other trains. (PL)
