Every August 10, Cuba celebrates hydraulic workers on their day, a commemoration marked by the creation of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) in 1962.
Havana, Cuba.- Establishing a hydraulic infrastructure to ensure socio-economic development was an imminent necessity that the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, foresaw with the launch of the INRH.
Since then, 63 years of intense work have passed, aimed at preserving and renovating hydraulic works to control water volumes and prevent potential shortages in the event of drought.
Maintaining reservoirs, micro-dams, lagoons, canals, and other sources of water for consumption and agriculture continues to be a priority for workers in this sector.
They work daily to increase and maintain the optimal condition of aqueducts and sewer-related works for the sanitation of urban and rural areas.
They also work to promote Hydraulic Willpower, addressing damage caused by natural phenomena and repairing the infrastructure on which access to and use of this resource depends. (PL)
