Mexican Navy ship Paloapan arrived Sunday in CubaThe Mexican Navy ship Paloapan arrived Sunday in Cuba with 1,250 tons of medical supplies and food destined for the fight against Covid-19 on the island.

Havana, Cuba.- Upon receiving the humanitarian cargo in the port of Havana, the Mexican ambassador to Cuba, Miguel Díaz, affirmed that the arrival of this ship is part of the permanent search for collaboration between two sister nations, united by historical ties.

He also reiterated the Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's position that it is not enough to condemn at the UN the U.S. blockade on the island but to recognize and repay Cuba's example of resistance, dignity, and solidarity in the face of the hegemonic pretensions of its northern neighbor.

On behalf of the Cuban government and people, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Ana Teresita González, thanked the aid from Mexico, which she described as "the result of a long history of ties of friendship."

This is the second Mexican ship to dock in the port of Havana with humanitarian aid in less than 48 hours, in defiance of the U.S. siege, intensified amid the complex situation faced by this Caribbean nation due to the spread of the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of Covid-19.

Food, oxygen, masks, and other means of protection and hospital supplies are part of these donations.

The day before, an Air Force aircraft also arrived with medical supplies to support the island's health system. (RHC)
