Statement by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign AffairsOn Tuesday, Cuban television reported that the government of the Island is taking the necessary steps and coordinating for the safe and voluntary return of Haitian migrants who arrived in the national territory through different provinces of central and eastern Cuba.

Havana, Cuba.- A note broadcast on the news program informed that the authorities of the largest Antillean Island maintain contact on the matter with the Government of Port-au-Prince, in correspondence with the ties of brotherhood, cooperation, and solidarity that characterize the bilateral relationship. Such a decision is under the international commitments on migration to which Cuba is a party.

Haitian migrants have been arriving in our country since September 11th.

The source specified that, as part of Cuba's humanist and solidarity vocation, these citizens received all the necessary attention, including medical assistance, and they remain in facilities equipped for that purpose.

On several occasions, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reiterated the need to work for a safe, orderly and regular migration, which will be possible if the root that causes this phenomenon that is a prevailing unjust and unequal international order is addressed. (RHC)
