2022 May Day parade in Havana, Cuba

At 7 am sharp the celebration of International Workers Day began in Havana, headed by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the 1st secretary of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the Republic.

Havana, Cuba.— Cubans are returning to the squares in all the cities and towns of the Caribbean country in parades for International Workers' Day.

The mobilizations, which on this date are massive, take place after two years of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, currently under control on the island with the lowest number of contagions in many months.

The parades were called by the Cuban Trade Union Federation, with the support of mass and social organizations.

Once again, the anniversary is accompanied in Cuba by hundreds of friends and activists from other parts of the world, who participated on Saturday in stands set up in different work centers to express themselves against the U.S. blockade against the Caribbean nation.

Since the early hours of Sunday, thousands of residents of Havana began to converge on the Paseo thoroughfare in the Vedado district in preparation for the parade. (RHC)
