Raúl Castro, Díaz-Canel pay tribute to the fallen in Matanzas fireThe leader of the Cuban Revolution Raúl Castro and the Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on friday paid tribute to 14 people who passed away in the life-threatening fire at the Matanzas oil terminal.

Matanzas, Cuba.- Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa, Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party Roberto Morales, President of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP, in Spanish) Esteban Lazo Hernández, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also paid their respects.

Under the guard of the Cuban people and the honor guard of the General Staff of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR, in Spanish), the caskets were placed in the Pantheon of the Fallen in the Line of Duty at the San Carlos Borromeo Cemetery in order to militarily honored.

For a bit, more than six hours, around 15,000 people paid their respects and condolences as part of the funeral honors to the fallen in the fire at the Matanzas´ oil storage tanks.

Cuba decreed official mourning on Thursday and Friday, arranging for an honorary ceremony to be held at the Enrique Estrada Firemen Department Museum. (PL)
