Las Tunas strengthens cultural ties abroad.

The Directorate of Culture in Las Tunas strengthened ties with other nations through the signing of two letters of intent with Timor Leste and Egypt and a cultural exchange agreement with the municipality of La Ceiba, Honduras. All on the concluding date of the Cucalamabeana Fiesta.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Signed by the Cuban side by Darlenis Urquiola, head of the sector here and, respectively, by their excellencies, Eusebio Corsino de Araujo and Maher El-Adawy, ambassadors of Timor Leste and Egypt in Cuba, the documents endorse the purpose of the parties to promote cultural and educational exchange activities each year, as conditions permit, to develop and preserve the most genuine expressions of the respective countries. Likewise, they intend to support and cooperate mutually, and institutionally, and establish working links between the respective embassies and the Provincial Directorate of Culture in the Balcón del Oriente Cubano (Cuban Eastern Balcony).

In addition, they reflected the commitments of the foreign delegations to disseminate through the means at their disposal the celebration in Las Tunas of the Cucalambeana Fiesta, the Ánfora Magic Festival, as well as the Entre Música Popular Music Festival.

Before the ceremony, Ambassador Maher El-Adawy summed up his country's notable contributions to world culture. He reviewed Egypt's achievements in medicine, linguistics, calendars, and arts. Also, he referenced his nation's contributions to universal mathematics and geometry; along with agriculture and architecture. The diplomat announced the plans to establish a permanent exhibition of Egyptian art in the Provincial Museum of Las Tunas.

For his part, His Excellency Mr. Eusebio Corsino de Araujo, Ambassador of Timor Leste, highlighted the indelible mark left in his people by the presence of Cuban collaboration in areas such as medicine and architecture since the beginning of this century. By signing this letter, he said, these links are raised to the level of culture.

"The cultural ties between our municipality and Las Tunas are already 10 years old," said Germán Leonel Cruz Paz, councilor of the municipality of Ceiba, Honduras, who has already become a regular participant in the Cucalambeana Fiesta. "With this agreement, we intend to strengthen those ties, and we have even evaluated with the local government to explore investment opportunities here," he said.
