Las Tunas HotelIt is undeniable that the province of Las Tunas shows progress in linking production bases with tourism, but a greater leap can be made if its potential is exploited.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- That was expressed by Roberto Cabrera, a Deputy for the municipality of Puerto Padre, issued during the exchange held in the Agriculture and Food and Attention to Services commissions of the National Assembly of the People's Power, which held virtual sessions, with the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Republic of Cuba.

Cabrera supported his opinion by the experience lived in the tours made to different entities of the territory, with the aim to respond to this issue so important for Cuba in times of difficult economic situation, due to the US blockade and the new coronavirus.

Even when tourism in Las Tunas is low-profile compared to the other provinces, more sectors can be exploited such as the Meat and Dairy Companies and Tecnoazúcar, a manufacturer and marketer of rums of recognized quality inside and outside the border, which must rescue productions such as sausages and candies.

He also meant that the Pescatun Fishing Company, recently incorporated into the Cuban Chamber of Commerce as it was the best in the country in 2019 and 2020, can also contribute more, with a greater variety of products to substitute imports and exports.

Also, Deputy Adis Oliver Moreno, from the Majibacoa municipality, told the Cuban News Agency that as a member of the commission she was able to verify the possibilities of providing quality products, especially vegetables, meats, fruits and small livestock; but sometimes the production bases are unaware of their potential.

We already have 26 units of production linked to tourism, but this figure can be increased, which requires going to each demarcation and explains the benefits for the community and the country's economy, Oliver Moreno said.

In this working session, which was chaired by Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of the People's Power, the Vice President of the Republic Salvador Valdés Mesa and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero intervened to clarify some of the topics discussed and recognized the solid arguments issued by deputies from different municipalities on import substitution for tourism in Cuba.
