Las Tunas reissues the passage of the Freedom Caravan

A representation of the people of Las Tunas received, this January 4, the new generation of Cubans who reissued the passage of the Freedom Caravan through this territory, carried out on this date of 1959 after the triumph of the Revolution and the overthrow of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In the José Martí Plaza of the capital city, the locals welcomed students, workers and combatants who starred in the traditional tour, which began in the town of Cañada Honda, in the municipality of Majibacoa.

At the event, Anier Arnedo Sánchez, first secretary of the Young Communist League (UJC) in the province, stressed that the present and the future are filled with challenges, and also of continuity.

The youth leader said that he remembered that epic full of greatness to the new generations and urged the people to assume the year 2021 with a greater commitment to the future of the nation. His words found resonance in those expressed by Yiliannis Navas, a student at the Wenceslao Rivero Basic Secondary School, who highlighted the unstoppable march of the youngest alongside the Cuban socialist project.

A group of pre-university students received the card that accredits them as members of the UJC; while the Association of Combatants in the province, defender of the national traditions and representative of the women and men who faced tyranny in the last stage of the struggle for national liberation, received recognition during the commemoration.

The main authorities of the province participated in the act, led by Manuel Pérez Gallego, the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party here.

Every January, the reissue of the Freedom Caravan evidences the convictions of the Cuban people, who do not forget their history.
