New resources support the sugar harvest in Las Tunas

The decision to release a significant amount of tires and batteries, from the state reserve, for trucks transporting sugarcane confirms the importance that the country attaches to the execution of the current harvest in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Rafael Pantaleón Quevedo, representative of the AZCUBA group in the Balcón de Oriente (Cuban Eastern Balcony), assured that, with this support, the Antonio Guiteras sugar company put one hundred percent of the paralyzed vehicles for such reasons into operation. Meanwhile, “Majibacoa” activated seven trailers with a capacity of 20 tons each.

The positive effects of the measure can already be seen. During the last four days, for example, the “Sugar Colossus” from Puerto Padre has not lacked raw material; while, the Majibacoa sugar mill improved the use of its potential milling capacity, by maintaining an average rate between 50 and 60 percent, higher than the previous phase.

Faced with this impulse from the suppliers, it is up to the industry workers to demonstrate that the factories are capable of assimilating and processing all the sugarcane that reaches the tilters. Also, to improve the main efficiency indicators, just as the Majibacoa sugar mill do by achieving partial industrial yields close to 11 percent.

Despite the delicate situation, the harvest is going through, with more than 35,000 tons of sugar in backlog, the sugar workers of Las Tunas are not giving up. On the contrary, they continue to struggle to reach the productive goal or get as close as possible.

In such an effort they also have in their favor that the best stage of the harvest, the most sugary, is underway. In what remains of February, March and April, the balance can tip in favor or against; it all depends on how the different forces involved in the campaign defend each working day.
