22nd Provincial Salon of Art Instructors

The 22nd Provincial Salon of Art Instructors, recently inaugurated as part of the day that every year pays homage to these defenders of culture, exhibits from the gallery La Jungla, of our branch of the Nicolás Guillén Foundation, a multiplicity of styles and techniques, to the delight of the spectators.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, and other expressions of art show a diversity of worldviews and aesthetics, with some works closer to the traditional and others that embrace experimentation.

22nd Provincial Salon of Art InstructorsSilvia María Quintana Aguilera, Visual Arts methodologist of the Provincial Center of Culture Houses (CPCC), told this press: "The awards on this occasion went to Damayanti Mena Escalona (municipality of Las Tunas), Daimí Silva García (Majibacoa) and Liusannis Pérez La Rosa (Jobabo). While the mentions went to Ángel López González ("Colombia"), Alberto García González ("Jesús Menéndez"), and Yudier Gamboa Espinos (Las Tunas).

"Besides, collateral prizes were awarded. The Education sector honored Yuslier Lozada Santiesteban (Jobabo), the Provincial Directorate of Culture to Sergio Luis Bodaño Quesada ("Colombia"), the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods to Amparo Martí Pérez (Las Tunas), the José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors to Yudier Gamboa (Las Tunas). While the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and the Union of Young Communists (UJC) awarded Liusannis Pérez La Rosa (Jobabo)."

Daimí Silva García, one of the winners, told 26: "My work is called El Vuelo (The Flight) and is inspired by the feeling of freedom, the freedom to create without being absorbed by everyday life. The piece speaks of the inner poetry that exists in every woman, that which fuses the delicacy and majesty of nature with the sublime sensation of flying.

"On the other hand, it is a privilege to be awarded once again in this contest, which always becomes an enriching experience, because it allows us to appreciate how much we have grown in our work to massif culture and raise awareness among the new generations, as Fidel dreamed."

Damayanti Mena, also a laureate, said: "My work is entitled Mundo de sueños (World of Dreams). It is about the fantasy that surrounds childhood and there is a mixture of what children want to be. My son inspired me. The salon is an opportunity to share knowledge, trends, and motivations; it stimulates us."

She heads the Bolívar corazón adentro project and, from the community of Las Petrocasas, conducts workshops on clay modeling for amateurs with an interest in the plastic arts. Like Daimí, she is an example of how art instructors can transform different environments for the better, always with culture and good practices as bastions.
