Humberto Solás Screening Room

The Tunas Theater houses the Humberto Solás Screening Room, another recreational option for the Tunas family, named after one of Cuba's most important filmmakers.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Yailín Hernández Velázquez, director of the Provincial Film Center, said: “The venue, located on the third floor of our institution, opens from Tuesday to Saturday, with materials aimed at all types of audiences, in the morning and evening. This allows some people to enjoy a show in the main hall while others view other offerings there.”

Hernández Velázquez also commented that audiovisual cycles related to the life and work of Solás will be held, since “There is still a lot of ignorance, especially among young people, about his work, and the idea is to attract students from different fields here.”

The screening room pays tribute to one of the most distinguished names in the Seventh Art, not only in Cuba but in the Americas. His social sensitivity, historical focus, and exquisite aesthetic sense led this director to win such prestigious awards as the National Film Prize. Among his most notable works are Lucía, Un hombre de Éxito, Cecilia, and Miel para Oshún. Additionally, in 2003, he founded the Gibara International Film Festival, also known as the International Festival of Poor Cinema.
