From October 10 to 20, the Cuban Culture Day Event (Jornada de la Cultura Cubana) is being celebrated. This year, the event is dedicated to the centennial of the births of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, filmmaker Julio García Espinosa, and singer Pacho Alonso, as well as the 50th and 40th anniversaries, respectively, of the founding of the Ministry of Culture and the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).
Las Tunas.- According to the program, the event kicks off at 26 de Julio Park with a performance by artists from the "Barbarito Diez" music and entertainment agency. Later, on 42nd Street in the La Victoria neighborhood, the "My Brigade in the Community" (Mi brigada en la Comunidad) initiative will take place, led by art instructors with the participation of the Huracán Mágico Company (Magic Hurricane), representatives from INDER (the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation), and other creative contributors.
In the afternoon, the Bajo las Estrellas Cabaret (Under the Stars) will host a performance by "Tonguita y los Tres Ositos" (Tonguita and the Three Little Bears), while the "Casa del Joven Creador" (House of the Young Creator) will feature a concert by Jesús Ricardo Pérez Sicilia.
The activities will extend to various municipalities, including a concert by the Puerto Padre Municipal Band, the "Charles Ingran in Memoriam" musical composition contest in the "Jesús Menéndez" municipality, and events at the "Casa de las Tradiciones" (House of Traditions) in Majibacoa, organized by the Miranda family and the Raíces Soneras traditional music group.
The agenda also includes the debut of the "Mi tierra linda" (My Beautiful Land) cultural gathering —featuring soloist Berlis Fernández— which will take place on the third Sunday of every month in the lobby of the Tunas Theater (at 5:00 PM), as well as the inaugural presentation of the "Balcón de Oriente" (Balcony of the East) award, which will honor artists, cultural promoters, specialized journalists, and other professionals for their meritorious contributions. Las Tunas is also participating in the “Fiesta de la Cubanía”—an event that, this year, extends to every province in the country— according to Darlenis Urquiola, the local director for this initiative.
The celebrations continue with discussions on topics such as the life of Armando Hart and the foundational work of the Ministry of Culture. There will also be a tribute to the late maestro Juan Borges —the unforgettable director of the Primer Espacio group— featuring the magic of jazz and other musical styles.
Furthermore, the Provincial Community Culture Award will be presented, recognizing outstanding cultural promoters, organizers, and other notable personalities. In short, the Cuban Culture Day Event will be celebrated here through a variety of gatherings, contests, unusual spaces, and other activities, culminating in a special gala at the Tunas Theater.
