Márquez was founder and first President of the provincial branch of the Artists and Writers Association, entity that granted him the Artist of Merit distinction while the local government issued a resolution to declare him Illustrious Son of Las Tunas.
Representing Cuba, he took the island's culture to Angola and Haiti while he was very loved by his colleagues and people in the province for his professionalism, good character, responsibility and humbleness.
The Márquez family is well known in Las Tunas for their dedication and defense of concert and popular music. (acn)
