Las Tunas University of Medical Sciences, in line with current demands and the potential of its professionals, has set itself the challenge of promoting research activity and equipping all faculty members with scientific tools and skills.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The university’s rector, Dr. Enelis Reyes Reyes, stated that in 2025, 164 researchers were trained and promoted to higher scientific ranks, with plans to add 37 more in the near future.
Dr. Reyes explained that during the previous academic year, all core programs and processes (undergraduate, graduate, science, and technological innovation) were successfully completed despite facing a difficult context. Similarly, she acknowledged the decentralization of training processes in university polyclinics as a positive development.
The rector noted that research activity remains the region’s main weakness, a deficiency highlighted since the 2023 institutional accreditation. The number of researchers (164) is very low compared to the 15,000 professionals in the province.
The Las Tunas University of Medical Sciences continues to draw on the prior experience of the university polyclinics in its teaching processes. At the same time, it has proposed accompanying faculty and students to understand the realities and demands of each educational process.
Both in their classrooms and beyond, they have learned that willpower is the engine that drives transformation. Individual and collective commitment is expressed through professional growth. Raúl Castro’s words stand as a motto: “Desire and will are sufficient conditions to undertake any task, no matter how complex it may seem.”
