The first and largest ceremony of the graduation cycle of the University of Medical Sciences took place on Monday in the municipality of Las Tunas. This year, 828 new professionals in Medicine, Stomatology, Nursing and Health technicians are graduating from their classrooms, completing their studies in a very unique context.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the ceremony, the rector of the institution, María Elena Mawad Santos, expressed that the young people were prepared with the personal effort that each work takes and the effort to raise the quality of the university processes. She said that due to the epidemiological situation caused by the COVID-19, this year the traditional mass celebration was not held and throughout this week they will have the honorable duty to graduate them in each of their municipalities of origin, in the towns that saw them born and where they will work preserving health.
Mawad Santos pointed out that "Cuban university students joined the fight against the disease and we were the only country where they had direct and active participation in the results shown. In our case - she affirmed – 3,075 students together with their teachers and other workers modified their study styles, teaching methods, and evading exhaustion they carried out their daily duty from home to home and from sunrise to sunset ”.
She added that those of terminal years “remained in the assigned trench facing the risk without fear and also did their duty. We are pleased to say that as a center of high studies, this year we deliver 492 new doctors to society, 67 graduates in Nursing, 68 stomatologists, 75 Nursing technicians and 126 Pharmaceutical Services technicians.”
Of the Medicine graduates, 133 started the vertical internship in 32 necessary specialties in the territory and the remaining 317 will carry out their specialization in Comprehensive General Medicine in medical offices, as part of strengthening the Primary Care Level. For their part; all dentistry graduates begin the specialty of Comprehensive General Stomatology.
The current promotion is characterized by high levels of quality and, surpassing previous graduations, 128 students obtained the Gold Title, 50 were awarded the Mario Muñoz Monroy condition, and five stood out in the research. The students Iliana María González Martín and Jhoncarlos Nieves Cuadrado were the most integral in the Medicine major, and Carlos Rubén Velázquez Agüero, in Dentistry.
On this occasion, 30 young people of 11 nationalities received the title of Doctor in Medicine, who will return to their countries and serve their peoples, raising the dignity and altruism of the Cuban Revolution. Graduate Ronaldo dos Ramos da Silva Costa spoke on their behalf, claiming to have found a family in Las Tunas and announced that as of they have become ambassadors of the truth of Cuba.
