Transforming the pediatric hospital of Las Tunas into a maternity and child one is one of the main investments undertaken by the Directorate of Public Health in this eastern Cuban province.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Addo Salah, of the Executive of the Construction an Assembly Company of the territory, in charge of this work, explained to the Cuban News Agency that they take advantage of the facilities that years ago began to be built for an extension, but never were finished.

Now the builders are engaged in the termination of the medical residence and in the rehabilitation of the hydraulic networks of the first hospital opened by the Revolution in Las Tunas, which will turn 60 years in 2020.

With the opening of the Mother and Child hospital, better attention will be given to children and pregnant women, who are now taken care of in maternity wards in the Doctor Ernesto Guevara de la Serna general teaching hospital.

Organized care for pregnant women in Las Tunas worked until the 80s of the last century in an exclusive unit for maternity, where the Provincial Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology lies today.

Another investment that is accelerated in the territory is the one that is being implemented at the Dr. Ernesto Guevara hospital, where the Construction and Assembly Company also expands the information unit, with the aim of conditioning two rooms and two bathrooms with its sanitary service, for relatives of admitted patients.

Initially, it was planned to place light ceilings in that place, but it was decided to install a solid roof with the perspective of building, when economic conditions allow it, a lodging center for the relatives of patients living distant from the hospital.
