Given the potential approach of Hurricane Melissa to Cuba's eastern region in the coming days, the General Directorate of Health in Las Tunas has activated the necessary structures to anticipate the reinforcement of management positions in the face of any future impacts.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dr. Yumara Acosta García, Acting Director General, chaired the meeting of the Health Subgroup, where it was announced that medical brigades are guaranteed to provide care in vulnerable and hard-to-reach areas that may be isolated after the passage of the atmospheric phenomenon.
The authorities also stated that priority is given to care for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and dialysis-dependent patients, while also ensuring the supply of medications, oxygen, and essential medical resources to all healthcare units.
To protect human lives, evacuation facilities and shelters are being prepared, with due epidemiological surveillance, hygiene, and water quality measures on-site, taking into account the current situation, when the circulation of several viruses is converging.
The Subgroup announced that measures are being implemented to protect facilities and equipment. Likewise, there is close coordination with the Red Cross, which has rescue and salvage equipment ready.
The Medical Supplies Company (EMSUME) and other insurance companies are working tirelessly to deliver the released resources to all municipalities.
In the event of an emergency, all communication and social media channels will remain open to continue issuing weather updates and health promotion and prevention messages.
It was also learned that, in the municipality of Amancio, the Luis Aldana Palomino polyclinic with inpatient services has two cubicles in the medical ward equipped to provide safe care during Hurricane Melissa.
The sector’s executives urge everyone to remain calm, follow official guidelines, and prioritize people's safety and well-being.
