Workers donated their blood

"We know that the province is fulfilling its plans, but the situation with the pandemic demands a little more from us because these are complex and worrying moments due to the rise in infections."

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In this way, Irenia del Carmen Díaz Guillén justifies her decision to extend her solidarity arm to voluntarily donate blood precisely on her birthday and adds: “Nothing, they agreed on the date, and I could not refrain from saying present to the call made by the Cuban Trade Unions Central (CTC) in the province. And here I am.”

Workers donated their bloodWithout losing her joy, she postponed the celebration for this very reason and because “the spread of the COVID-19 throughout the territory suggests prudence, social distancing, individual and collective discipline, and assuming the measures of the biosafety protocol with strict respect to stop the spread of this disease,” she says.

Irenia is a legal advisor at the Company for Transportation and Mechanization Services (TRANZMEC), of the AZCUBA Sugar Group, and she is convinced that "celebration and happiness are every day when one is happy herself."

She acknowledges that she is not a regular donor, but "I had already done it on other occasions and today I have been responding to the call of our union to comply with this solidarity gesture requested by the CTC here."

Dagmara Peña Sánchez, a member of the Provincial Secretariat of the labor organization, is enthusiastic about the response given to the call by members of different unions and affirms that voluntary blood donations have already become a tradition for Las Tunas workers.

She explains that, on this occasion, the mobile bank has arrived at the headquarters of the workers' central requested to support the battle against the pandemic and to greet with dignity the 68th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada (Santiago de Cuba) and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (Bayamo, Granma), staged by the Centennial Generation on July 26, 1953, led by the Historical Leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Dagmara shows the diploma issued by the Ministry of Public Health that recognizes the outstanding and systematic contribution of the Las Tunas union movement to this national program, aimed at preserving life, "so threatened in these times of complex epidemiological situation facing humanity."

The solidarity arm of the workers from Las Tunas extends to help those in need, in a gesture that multiplies throughout this eastern territory and reaches other work centers, where novice donors and others with experience converge, united by the altruism founded by the Revolution.
