Mr. Simeon Bouro, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Solomon Islands

His Excellency, Mr. Simeon Bouro, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Solomon Islands in Cuba, expressed his satisfaction at the graduation of eight professionals from his country at the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas, for what they represent for the health of their people.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The diplomat highlighted the quality of the training of the new doctors on the island, with whom there are now 170 in his nation's Public Health System, to care for almost 700,000 inhabitants, with a high number of patients with chronic non-communicable illnesses, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and high blood pressure.

Bouro pointed out the importance that some of these doctors, and others, could be trained in Cuba as specialists in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Endocrinology, to achieve better care for the inhabitants of the Solomon Islands.

Talking to the press, after an exchange with representatives of the Health Directorate in Las Tunas, and specialists from Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching Hospital, the Ambassador expressed his satisfaction at knowing widely about the treatment of the diabetic foot with the Cuban drug Heberprot-P, to be applied in his country, which has already advanced 50 percent in this regard; not so in Cardiology, on which they aspire to train specialists in Cuba, in Las Tunas, in particular.

About the eight youngsters who have just graduated at the Balcón de Oriente (Balcony of Eastern Cuba), he said he was pleased, and commented that they could be the first to prepare on this earth as specialists to strengthen the Health System of their nation.

During the meeting with medical professionals in Las Tunas, Simeon Bouro was interested in the development of these sciences here and received a detailed explanation about the specialties of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Endocrinology; as well as the postgraduate studies offered by the University of Medical Sciences of the province.

The Solomon Islands add up to more than 990 small territories with an area of 28,400 square kilometers and 652,858 inhabitants, and constitute an independent island country, located in Oceania, in traditional Melanesia, and is part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
