Celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Provincial Meteorology Center

An affectionate greeting from the people of Las Tunas was transmitted to the group of the Provincial Meteorology Center (CMP) by the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (PCC) and its first secretary in the territory, Manuel Pérez Gallego, on the occasion of celebrating the entity's 30th birthday.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Pérez Gallego expressed his congratulations at a political-cultural ceremony, in which he thanked the work carried out during three decades of effort, scientific studies, and information, in the endeavor to preserve human lives and private and state material resources.

He recognized the importance of early warning notices to make timely decisions in the event of heavy rains, coastal or low-lying areas flooding, severe local storms, and other atmospheric phenomena.

The scientific institution, National Vanguard on seven occasions, has -among its workers- outstanding specialists who not only prepare weather forecasts with nearly 93 percent effectiveness, but also study the climate and rule on its impact on the agricultural sector, drought, and pollution.

In the celebration of the 30th anniversary, the Juan Tomás Roig Distinction was awarded to women and men with 20 and 25 years of uninterrupted work in the science sector, respectively; founders and outstanding workers were thanked for their management in favor of the entity, as well.

The director of the CMP, Eberto Estrada Sao, received recognition from the Central Union of Cuban Workers (CTC), the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA), the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), and the provincial government -from its main representative, governor Jaime Chiang Vega.
