To increase the state cattle ranches and promote the control and management of the cattle mass are priorities

The agricultural sector in the province of Las Tunas has had a very difficult year due to the instability of different basic resources for the development of agriculture and livestock; however, the human factor has also had an impact on the low production of several items.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- This was the conclusion reached by the participants in a broad analysis of the activity, led by Manuel Pérez Gallego, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in the territory, who insisted that discipline and control could transform this situation.

At first, the delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Yoel Martínez Vargas, referred to the delays in the cold planting campaign, largely due to the insufficient availability of fuel for land preparation.

He also mentioned the difficulties with the contracting process of the different products for next year, with emphasis on milk and meat, besides the increase in cattle mortality in the eight municipalities.

Martínez Vargas said that the delivery plans for both lines for the dairy and meat industries, respectively, show notable delays due to the lack of control and follow-up by the production bases, companies, and municipal delegations.

Regarding the idle lands dedicated to usufruct, he pointed out that it is a figure that changes depending on the declarations made by the companies and the speed with which the applications are processed. At the moment, there are more than 51,000 hectares in Las Tunas territory.

As positive aspects, he pointed out that the files of the proceedings related to the inheritance of lands were concluded and that progress is being made in the increase of areas of collective use to the credit and service cooperatives and the reference producers with more than 10 cows.

He added that the pending cases of owners of large cattle without land tenure were resolved, a difficulty that had existed for some time and had not found a solution. The land was given to 18 of these people and cattle was purchased from the remaining 28.

For his part, Pérez Gallego emphasized the actions to be undertaken by the 163 productive forms of the province to guarantee food production, the increase of which depends on greater stability in the markets and the guarantee for consumption in hospitals, schools, and homes for mothers and the elderly.

In this regard, he reflected on the performance of the main people responsible for the 12 state functions in the direct attention to the production units and called to appeal to the peasant wisdom to obtain better results, with the use of animal traction, the application of organic matter and other techniques.

He oriented to strengthen the labor collectives, of which 140 can be constituted and there are only 63, to increase the state cattle ranches, promote the control and management of the cattle mass, and look for alternatives to guarantee the water needed by the animals and the crops.

In the final moments of the meeting, the challenges of the sector in the last month of the year and facing 2023 were discussed, among them were mentioned the 35th anniversary of the National Movement of Urban, Suburban, and Family Agriculture and the exhibition and commercial activities that greet the First of January.
